I work with time based techniques such as sound and movement. Traditionally, this would most likely be considered music or dance, yet the framing of my work through the lens of time is critical to my point of view. Most simply and directly put, time is life itself. It is how we orient our understanding of the human experience. I have come to understand that we are all time travelers. This is the hidden experience that we all have in common; we were once in the past and we are now all in the future. (The present is a fallacy.) When I view myself in relation to other people I often think of myself as moving in slow motion. This has caused me to carefully consider the distances both incredibly near (think sharing a bed) and far (think being in outer space) between people and concepts. Travis Clarke is an artist working in time based mediums using movement and sound. He has performed at art galleries and theatrical stages including Soapbox Gallery in Brooklyn, NY (USA) and On the Boards in Seattle, WA (USA).
